Curran Pergola, Pool, and Grotto

The Curran project transforms a sprawling Atlanta backyard into a fully integrated outdoor living ecosystem. Rather than isolating the pool as a single feature, we designed an interconnected environment where dining, cooking, swimming, and relaxation flow naturally across the landscape.

The covered pergola anchors the entertainment zone, with a custom outdoor kitchen built around a Big Green Egg as the centerpiece. The structure provides year-round usability while maintaining sight lines to the custom pool and grotto beyond. Every material--from the beam profiles to the stone veneer on the cooking station--was selected to tie the spaces together visually.

The pool itself becomes a sculptural element, fed by a natural-looking stone waterfall that originates from an elevated grotto. A sunken stone spa sits adjacent, creating distinct thermal and social zones without fragmenting the overall design. The entire composition is unified by integrated landscape lighting that reveals the architecture after dark while maintaining the natural aesthetic.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful spatial planning and material consistency can elevate a backyard from a collection of amenities into a cohesive outdoor architecture. The client now has a destination on their own property, designed and built to hospitality-grade standards.
